This is a good example of a topographic map because it clearly shows the difference in the lands surface. You can see the different altitudes by color.

PLSS map

This map is a good representation of the areas covered by the Public Land Survey system in the U.S. You can see that Texas, the 13 colonies, and some other areas aren't included. This map shows the initial points and prime meridians and baselines that extends from those points for each area.
